Just to expand on that answer, what you do is move the decimal point over. For example if I want to put the decimal point right in between the 2 and 9 to make 2.9 that means I move the decimal over 6 places, so that means if I start with 2.954 I need to move back to the left (or negative side) 6 places to get back to the original 0.000002954 I started with, so you take the 2.954 and multiply it by 10^-6 and that 10 to the power of SOMETHING tells you how many spaces you need to go back to the left to go back to your regular decimal notation.
