synthetic division for f(x)=x3+13x2+22x-176

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you need a divisor ... or at least a root to play with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have, 1 2 44 8 11 16 22 44 88 176

mathslover (mathslover):

are -1, -2 ,-44 and so on the factors also?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thenyou are apparently either bored and wasting time with nonsense; or you have had a seizure :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not funny to joke about i hope you know that, i've worked out the problem but i cant finr the one that ends with 0

hartnn (hartnn):

please verofy the question.,that equation has 2 complex roots and a real root as 2.718

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it might not have a rational root

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your not helping me. youre confusing me

hartnn (hartnn):

if you are not getting ending as 0 with any integer, then you are correct 2.718 is the root,u will get a 0 with this number only also other 2 roots are complex, impossible to find using synthetic division so my guess is that the question is incorrect

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if none of the rational roots work; that only leaves us with irrational, or complex roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still dont get it

hartnn (hartnn):

if u use the root for synthetic division, then only u get 0 in the end so,for this equation,if you use any integer for synthetic division, you will never get in the end because, the roots of this equation are not integers at all

hartnn (hartnn):

*u will never get 0 in the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then my answer is 0?

mathslover (mathslover):

options given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

none

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to show your work

mathslover (mathslover):

@hartnn can help u then.. sorry

hartnn (hartnn):

if the question is correct, then you cannot solve that equation by synthetic division and no,answer is NOT 0 as 0 is not the root of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what would the answer be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because then its telling me that i have to find the zero and use the quadratic formula to find the other zeros

hartnn (hartnn):

then i would request again to reverify the question, there must be some error in question if its not ,then take 2.718 for synthetic division it would be combersome but you will get a 0 in the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2.718 is only an approximation since there are no rational roots

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this is a screenshot form the wolfram
