What is the equation of this circle? (x + 1)2 + y2 = 2 (x – 1)2 + y2 = 4 (x + 1)2 + y2 = 4 (x – 1)2 + y2 = 2

You probably need to choose one of the two middle ones. You can see that the radius is 2 and that 2 squared is 4 which is what the constant on the right of the equal sign. So now you just need to decide is it (x-1) or (x+1) squared.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is its (x-1) squared?

OpenStudy (radar):

I think it is. Do you have the formula for a circle handy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-h) squared +(y-k) squared = r squared

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its (x+1) bc the the coordinates in the equation is the opposite sign

OpenStudy (radar):

ok then k=-1 from the drawing.so -k would be 1 (x+1)^2 Does that make sense??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thanks :)

OpenStudy (radar):

It is confusing I admit, and I hope I thinking clearly lol. Good luck with it.
