Confucius's main beliefs were: benevolence, etiquette, loyalty, and filial piety. Society for Kongzi were ordered by ritual, and by observance to those rituals and proper behavior to the order that was in society. 

Laozi main belief was that if the Tao was naturally ordered, and therefore, interference was not necessary. His beliefs were based around the concept to "wuwei" or action less, action. People must behave according to the their essential nature, said Laozi, otherwise they would be out of balance with the world itself. 

Simplified, Taoists were minimalists, while Confucians relied on ritual. Its a bit of an oversimplification, but it should help you understand it.
