a random sample of size n=16 is obtain from a normally distribution population with a population mean =100 and variance =25. a)wat is the probability that the sample variance is greater than 45.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this sounds like .... mean of them means type thing to me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://uscdistancelearning.com/statistics/chapter10/variance.html this might be a good prep for the question at least

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i never did go over any chi square stuff in elementary stats ....

OpenStudy (valpey):

You can use a Chi-Squared distribution with n-1 degrees of freedom. You are looking for the right-tailed probability that you will observe a value of (n-1)*45/25.

OpenStudy (valpey):

I sort of misstated that. I mean the right-tailed probability of a Chi-Squared distribution with n-1 degrees of freedom where x > (n-1)*45/25.

OpenStudy (valpey):

Do you have a table for Chi-Squared distributions, or Microsoft Excel?
