If the odds against Eagleton winning the election are 1 to 7, then what is the probability that Eagleton will win the election?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is 1/6

OpenStudy (shane_b):

If the odds against him winning are 1 out of 7...that means there must be 6 possibilities out of 7 that he will actually win.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok I see now how to do it. Thanks Shane

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Ok, good. To be clear it's because there are 7 total possibilities....1 against him winning and 7-1=6 for him winning.

OpenStudy (shane_b):

you're welcome :)
