What is the sum of a sequence that has 9 terms beginning with 4, 12, 36,...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lgbasallote sorry I don't understand this one either.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

first find the 9th term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I'd use an=a1(n-1)d right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

an = a1 + (n-1)d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do I sub for D though?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm wait... this is not arithmetic sequence

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this is geometric sequence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly why i'm lost

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

unfortunately i dont have the formula for sum of geometric sequence memorized but to find the 9th term you use the formula \[a_n = a_1 r^{n-1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is r?
