The midpoint of a line segment with end points as (x, 4) and (-2, -2) is (2, 1). What is the value of x? x = 6 x = 4 x = -3 x = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the midpoint formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i have no clue how to get the answer :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait is it x = 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the midpoint formula is: \(\huge (\frac{x_1+x_2}{2}, \frac{y1+y2}{2}) \) where the endpoints are (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). since the midpoint is given to you, you'll need to work backwards to get the x coordinate of one of the endpoints..
