I hate word problems, I just go brain dead...can anyone help? On a certain type of street surface, the equation d = 0.055v2 can be used to approximate the distance d, in feet,a car traveling v miles per hour will slide when its brakes are applied. After applying the breakes, the driver of a car involved in an accident skidded 40 ft. Did the traffic officer ivestigating the accident issue the driver a ticket for speeding if the speed limit was 30 MPH?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Try just writing out only the math parts. Take it word by word if you have to. Write out the equation d=0.055v^2 and then when it refers to something in that equation, write it down next to it. So when you get to where it says d and it says distance you can write down OK d is the distance travelled. Then try to find out what v is to help figure it out from there. Then when you're given other stuff ask yourself. OK, is this a distance or time or speed or WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? and then take a second to breath and just be like, it's just distance and try seeing if that's something you can use or not. More you practice the more it's not so bad. It can be kind of like a fun game if you just keep telling yourself it is. Eventually you'll believe your own lies! =D
