Below are the home states of 19 college professors. New Jersey Ohio Michigan Georgia Nebraska Wisconsin Ohio South Carolina Pennsylvania Michigan Georgia New Jersey Wisconsin Georgia Ohio Florida Georgia New Jersey South Carolina i. Make a frequency table using these 9 states: Florida Georgia Michigan Nebraska New Jersey Ohio Pennsylvania South Carolina Wisconsin ii. What is (are) the mode(s)? iii. Does it make sense to talk about the average for this data?

hartnn (hartnn):

frequency means how many times that state has appeared in the data can u tell me what is the frequency of new jersey?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

hartnn (hartnn):

how 2? does it appear only 2 times? or more than that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 sorry

hartnn (hartnn):

ok,so now u can calculate frequency of each state ,right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

hartnn (hartnn):

ok,now there are 19 states in total do u know how to find % of total for each state?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

hartnn (hartnn):

% of total for new jersey will be frequency/total=3/19 did u get this?

hartnn (hartnn):

sorry,(3/19)*100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would that be 33.3. Just divide 3/100

hartnn (hartnn):

no,3*100/19=300/19=15.79%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so florida is 1 so that would be 5.2%

hartnn (hartnn):

yes,u got it,do this for every other state... better write it as 5.26%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about measure of central angles?

hartnn (hartnn):

for that instead of multiplying by 100,u multiply by 360 for new jersey 3*360/19 got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

56.84

hartnn (hartnn):

yes,but u got it how it came? do it for other states....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says what is the mode in the question? the mode is what?

hartnn (hartnn):

The mode is the number that appears most often in a set of numbers.

hartnn (hartnn):

so which state appears maximum number of times??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

georgia

hartnn (hartnn):

correct,so your mode is georgia...which appears 4 times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when it says on the fourth part using the frequency table draw a pie chart is it referring to the graph below it or do i need to make a pie chart

hartnn (hartnn):

u have to make the pie chart u use central angle for making pie chart

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that can u give me an example or formula. what is central angle? wht inforation do i put into it. the percentage part? o make 9 different sections and put the percentage in each one of them

hartnn (hartnn):

i already told u about the % part.....check it...3*100/19 for new jersey... draw pie chart as below....i'll write for new jersey,u write for others,so for new jersey u got central angle as 56.84 degrees, right?so i will make a sector as shown with its central angle=56.84 degrees |dw:1345407644526:dw|
