okay, im confused as to where the 5 came from, and i'm not sure what to do What is the solution set of {x | x < 2} ∪ {x | x ≥ 2}? all numbers less than -5 and greater than 5 the numbers between -5 and 5 the empty set all real numbers

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

all real numbers

OpenStudy (turingtest):

wanna explain that a little bit?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yea - sorry x < 2 means all real numbers less than 2 x >= 2 means 2 and all real numbers greater than 2 so that includes all real numbers (the U symbol means the union of the two)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I would probably draw a picture of each solution set on the number line....

OpenStudy (phi):

okay, im confused as to where the 5 came from, all numbers less than -5 and greater than 5 the numbers between -5 and 5 those are just bogus answers that make no sense. If you pick them, it means you have NO IDEA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i just hate when i think something's a bogus answer, and then i rule it out, & it turns out to be right

OpenStudy (turingtest):

|dw:1345407190185:dw|here is each solution set independently as was stated earlier, U means "union" (i.e. put the two sets together, which in this case is like letting the two graphs overlap)
