How to solve x+3^x=12 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(f(x)=x+3^x\) is an increasing function so clearly there is a one real root on the interval (2,3)... i would say use numerical methods...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but how do I find the actual value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no way to solve it analytically

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What way is there then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

numerical methods like newton-raphson..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't such methods only offer close approximations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just close approximations..
