They have two membranes, their inner membrane is similar to that of a prokaryote. They have their own circular DNA and replicate on their own by binary fission. They have their own HsPs which are necessary for all life to exist. They are isolated from eukaryotic membrane flow (orphaned organelles) which implies that the eukaryote did not produce them. They also require a special protein to get more lipids as they cannot produce their own.
