Is there a term used to describe both an equation and inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've never heard of it. 'equation' means 'equality' ... you can equate only equal things. inequality by definition contradicts equation.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a function or relation

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

what about expression?

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

how about an inequation? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an expression does not have = sigh. relation can contain equation or inequality. a function is an equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inequation ... wow sounds pretty cool!! \[ x \leq y\] although it contains both equation, i think this is an inequality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both equation and inequality, but I think this is an inequality.

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

i was being sarcastic :p
