What is the solution to the rational equation.. (I have a picture of it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try getting rid of the denominators (by multiplying everything by them), and then bashing out the addition.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay! hold on Im working that out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Note that the denominator on the right (3x+15) is equal to the product of the denominators on the left. So combine the two left hand side fractions, and then remove the denominators.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I did that. now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can I eliminate the denominators since they're the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, because you're basically multiplying each side of the equation by 3x+15.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait. I got answer thats not there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer choices: x=-8 x=-2 x=2 x=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait x=-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. Remember that you can always plug that in to check.
