Aliyah mised together 4 gal. on Brand A fruit drink and 10 gal. of Brand B fruit drink which contains 14% fruit juice. Find the percent of fruit juice in Brand A if the mixture contained 12% fruit juice.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Make a relationship with the percentages. The percentage of fruit juice must be conserved from the 4 gallon bucket and the 10 gal bucket to the final 14 gallon bucket. (We're not pulling fruit juice out of thin air)

How do I do that, exactly? This is where I'm having issues.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, how do you express a percentage as a decimal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be .14 and .12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct, so the sum of whatever percentage the 4 gal bucket and the 12 gal bucket is must equal 14(0.12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You'd have 4x + 12(0.14) = 14(0.12)
