i need help with circles and finding arcs from an angle and an already given arc. Iv got a picture!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Picture please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to find x I assume?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what kind of an angle is the 10 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea. i dont understand your question. iv looked through all my notes and there is nothing about finding the outer arc (x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when talking about circles there are interior, central and exterior angles.never heard of them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait, it's been a long time since geometry... Can't you just add the 30 and 10 together to get 40 and subtract it from 180 because the other part of the angle goes through the middle of the circle? Shouldn't that make the measure 140?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes iv heard of them. so since the bottom line is the diameter does that mean that everything above it (including arcs) has to equal 180?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it works this time @CaptianPollux but not always..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought thats what was supposed to happen but the 10 degrees is not the same as the arc next to the 10 degrees...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you cant add the 10 and 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a 2 step problem :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look since 10 is an exterior angle=>10=(30-arc.next.to.10)/2 which gives arc.next.to.10=10 now 180=30+x+10=>x=...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 10 degree exterior angle is not the same as the arc. the angle is smaller than the arc its next to. So it has to be 30+(Y-10) or something
