are you sure you`re not making a mistake? I think your question is wrong, In other words it has no answer. If you switch 6 and 1 , then it will be solvable.

the bracket is always positive: |5x+9|>0 So there must be a mistake in the book because according to your question ,|5x+9| is -5, which is impossible.

However, if you switch the numbers, |5x+9| will be 5. then 5x+9 can be either 5 or -5. Which gives 2 answers.
