Mark all of the statements that are true. (will attach graph shortly) a. The range for this function is the set {3}. b. This graph is not a function because the value of y is the same for every value of x. c. The domain for this function is all real numbers. d. The domain for this function is the set {3}. e. All real numbers are in the range of this function. ***CHOOSE ALL THAT APPLY!! And please explain!! :) My answers are: A, B, C Please go through with me? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi @UnkleRhaukus do u think u can help me? :)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

a, b, are correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so C isn't correct?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i mean a, c are correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so B is not correct??

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

d and e are not correct, im not 100% sure on b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it because x can go into a y value twice but y cannot go into an x value twice??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could u pls explain why d and e are not correct? i don't get it :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

B is false, this is indeed a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi @jim_thompson5910 thanks for coming too :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is this a function??

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i passes the vertical line test ,

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, and notice how each x only maps to one y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh i see i forgot about the vertical line test :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah it does go to only one y...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so far the answers are A and C??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And what about D and E??? :)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

c and d are in contradiction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so D is automatically NOT an answer? But what about E??

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

and e contradicts a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so the final answer is A and C? 100% sure? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have just two more questions after this? one is double checking and the other i need an explanation... do you think ya'll can help me with just 2 more after? if not, i totally understand! :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a. The range for this function is the set {3}. True (only 3 is spit out of the function) b. This graph is not a function because the value of y is the same for every value of x. False, it passes the vertical line test. So it's a function c. The domain for this function is all real numbers. True. Any real number can be plugged into the function d. The domain for this function is the set {3}. False. This is a contradiction of choice c). Clearly values other than 3 work for x e. All real numbers are in the range of this function. False. This is a contradiction of choice a). Only 3 is produced as an output

OMG!! thanks so much @jim_thompson5910 that was great!! Ima give u a medal and can u please give @UnkleRhaukus one too cuz this only lets me give one and u both helped me so much! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

just summing up what you guys went over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ima post 2 more questions (one to double check and another that i need help with and an explanation??) do you think u can help me?? I'll send u the link?? :)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

and a very fine summary it is too indeed ,

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

thanks

Please select all correct answers and click "submit." Mark all the statements that are true. A. This graph is a function whose range is the set {3}. B. The equation of this line is x = 3. C. This graph is a function whose domain is the set {3}. D. This graph is not a function because the value x = 3 is assigned to more than one y-value. E. This graph is a function because the value of x is the same for every value of y.
