A piece of sheet in metal form of an isosceles triangle ABC, of height 2h, is folded across the line bisecting the two equal sides AB and AC. Show that the center of mass of the folded metal shape is h/2 from BC...???

OpenStudy (ghazi):

|dw:1345662540893:dw| after folding you'll have half of the triangle and then use coordinate axes to fix coordinates and use center of mass = (m1x1+m2x2)/(m1+m2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i get you man...bt what will be the cg-position of the folded part, will it be at y=h/3? & will the area of the folded part be (0.5*h*(base/2), a base half the original 1??

OpenStudy (ghazi):

yes area of half region will be \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }*base*height\]

OpenStudy (ghazi):
