whats power and roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x to the power of 2\[x^2=x*x\] the third root of x\[\sqrt[3]{x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

roots are basically the opposite of powers kinda like multiplication is the opposite of division or subtraction is the opposite of addition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so something like 3^2 or "3 squared" is equal to 9 \[3^2=9\] the square root of 9 is equal to 3 \[\sqrt{9}=3\]

powers are ... for example.. x to the power of 2, which is written as x^2 , and roots are .. for example... √4 = 2
