For Creative Writing class, we are working on a satirical piece. But I have a question, is satire always political?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

not necessarily. satire is used to laugh at the mistakes of humans; their errors and foolishness. It just so happens that human error and foolishness are abundant in politics, so satires commonly focus on politics for satirical pieces. does that help?

Thank you. So, cynical, misanthropic humor works well for satire?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i believe so, yes. As long as you are criticizing human errors and vices, it will work well for satire.

You technically don't even need to saterize people....satire is like a characiture, you could satarize dogs. However, the scope is very limited and sypathies for animals, especally pets abound so it's probably not going to win you any points with you audience unless you're really clever
