What area(s) of Bioinformatics interests you? If you're interested in an overview of the (mostly web-based) tools that are used in support of day-to-day research (BLAST etc.), then there is actually a Bioinformatics for Dummies book that's surprisingly good as an introduction (though it's getting little out of date). If by Bioinformatics you mean more cutting-edge in-silico research topics like protein folding algorithms, organism simulation, etc. then I don't have a good reference offhand, but you might also search on "computational biology" and "mathematical biology".
