i am wishing to know if when creating a circle of center origin is it not possible to have numbers before the \[x ^{2}\]\[y ^{2}\] like this : \[16x ^{2}+25y ^{2}=400\] or must it only be \[x ^{2}+y ^{2}=400\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

if the coefficient of x and y is the same is can be a circle otherwise it can only be an ellipse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if i had \[16x ^{2} and 16y ^{2}=400\] it would be a circle?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[16x^2+16y^2=400\]\[x^2+y^2=\frac{400}{16}\]\[x^2+y^2=25\]\[x^2+y^2=5^2\]
