does anybody knows how the earth's magnetic field is produced?
its all due to whirling of matter(metals) present in the core of our earth....
specifically the magnetic fields are formed because of the motion of molten alloys in the outer core of the earth
i read that temperature is so high in the earth's core, the alloys cannot produce magnetic field.
well the alloys are molten....
venus which too has a molten alloy in its core cannot produce the magnetic field. magnetic field is produced due to the motion of the earth around itself (or sun?) and the particular speed with which earth is moving. but i am not able to understand, how earth motion produces magnetic field?
there is actually a theory related to this; the Dynamo theory. "Dynamo theory describes the process through which a rotating, convecting, and electrically conducting fluid acts to maintain a magnetic field" In Earth's case, the conductive fluid are the liquid iron in the outer core
Yes it is thought that the 'Dynamo' effect is created via the movement of the molten 'outer' core moving around the solid inner core. Both are made of iron. However the Earth's magnetic field is very weak. It is just enough to move a small compass needle.
