That equation = 4b + 8 + 1 + b^2 + 2b^3. Plug in b(-2) for all the B's you see :D
And then you get 5 right ?
Nope
4(-2)+8=0 1+(-2)^2=5 2(-2)^3=-16
I think your answer is -11. Not sure though. :D

Remember PEMDAS Exponents comes before multiplication.
\[\left| -4(-2)-8 \right|+\left| -1-(-2)^2 \right|+2(-2)^3\] you'll have -3
