underroot 3x+1-under root x-1=2

hartnn (hartnn):

to solve such equations, first try to keep, only one square root sign in one side of = sign.....can u do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

leme try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can I bring 2 on the other side of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and make it -2

hartnn (hartnn):

its not required, but if u do that, still there will be only one, sqrt sign on one side of = sign...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can multiply

hartnn (hartnn):

in short, keep 2 on other side only :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and multiply the rest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

hartnn (hartnn):

no,then square both sides...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then cancel

hartnn (hartnn):

then u cancel square root sign and square u took, from one side...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I cancelled all and no sq root now

hartnn (hartnn):

but u should have one square root on other side! because u use the formula: (a+b)^2=a^2+2*a*b+b^2 ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when I left sq root on the oher side on 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I left sq root on 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am so lost . :(

hartnn (hartnn):

wait,let me show u...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

hartnn (hartnn):

|dw:1345751306962:dw| this is what i get when squaring, did u get till here?
