In basketball, the Falcons won 15 of their first 20 games. In order to win 60% of the total number of games, how many more games will they have to play, assuming they win only half of the remaining games? I got 30 but my teacher says its not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she gave me 75% of 20 + %50 of (x -20) = 60% of x I'm a little confused

OpenStudy (radar):

What is the number of total games that will be played?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 30 for my answer but my teacer says that isn't right

OpenStudy (radar):

Your teacher is right, it ain't 30. The problem states they are to play 20 games. Review the first sentence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 60% of 20?

OpenStudy (radar):

Yes, now you will have to round off. To compute the number of games, remember they have already won 15

OpenStudy (radar):

Show me your answer please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 7? I am really confused

OpenStudy (radar):

As I am confused as they have already won enough and then some. Looks like the could lose the remaining 5 and still beat the 60 percent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my teacher gave me this 75% of 20 + 50% of (x - 20) = 60 of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the answer is 5, I will try that. Thank you for your help!!!
