please help (step by step work i wanna learn how to do it) 4y - 1/10 = 3y + 4/5 1/10 is a fraction and so it 4/5 .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok do you know how to add and subtract fractions. you need to have a common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry for replying late but yes i know how to do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it wud be 4y - 1/10 = 3y + 8/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the variable in here is "y" so we solve for y. we solve by isolating y or getting it on one side. so you can either add 1/10 or -8/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll add 1/10 to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 4y = 3y + 9/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i add or subtract 3y this is the part i get confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you subtract the 3y like this |dw:1345763435528:dw|
