A business that manufactures small alarm clocks has a weekly fixed cost f $5000. The average cost per clock for the business to manufacture x clocks is described by 0.5x+5000/x. Find the average cost when x=100, 1,000 and 10,000.

put 100 in for x and solve. 0.5(100) + 5000/100. use order of operations to get your answer. Then go back and do the same thing for 1,000 and 10,000.

.5 x 100 = 50 5000/100 = 50 So if you are just plugging the numbers into the formula you would have 50 on the left side and 50 on the right. so if you add them up for $100 I'm coming up with $100.

I did .5 x 100 + 5000 and got 5050 then divided by 100 which gave me 50.50

.5 x 100 is correct you do get 50 but you can't add that to 5000 because order of operations tells you that you must divide before you add. So you have to divide 5000/100. Let me ask you this. does your question look like what I've drawn or is is laid out vertically?|dw:1345770062586:dw|
