Symbolize and evaluate each 13 less than -31 26 more than -8 9 more than -30 40 less than twice 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am having trouble solving this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

less than -- < greater than -- > twice -- 2*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13 less than -31 is it suppose to be -31-13?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait oops disregard what i just said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you would be right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the part I was confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40 less than twice 16 Is it suppose to be (16)^2 -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it would mean 2*16

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

40 less than twice 16 is written \(40<2\cdot16\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would be true @helder_edwin if it said "is less than"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How is it 40< 2*16 don't I have to multiply 2*16? Wouldn't that be 32? 40>32?

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

right. sorry!!

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

i automatically put the "is"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (helder_edwin):

i think "40 less than twice 16" would then be \[ \large 2\cdot16-40 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay
