Can we have an orange color to show that a person is idle and even an edit button for answers too ?
That would be a great addition to this site! It frustrating sometimes helping someone and waiting for a response just to find out that they left there computer or whatever.
yeah .. ;)
Hey ashna, So in regard to your first question, we don't really have a way to detect if someone is idle. How would you suppose we define that? It's difficult for us to tell whether or not they're just reading or if their browser was left open or what have you. In regard to editing replies, we've gotten this request a lot, and have yet to hear a compelling reason to do so. However, if you have one I'm all ears.
okay so let people choose .. that they can use the colour orange to show that they are busy with something else :)
One good reason for being able to edit replies is to fix typos. Whether it be a wrong number typed in a math problem or just a slip of the keyboard when writing out lengthier responses. Editing would allow for less posts to correct a simple mistake. And saves someone like me the embarrassment of coming back and apologizing for typos.
yea :)
Something to consider on letting people indicate their own away status. I suspect it wouldn't be used, but something to think on nonetheless. In regard to editing replies, that's the general argument we hear. In the latest discussions on reply editing we've considered allowing you to edit your reply for 1 minute after you post your reply and then after that setting it in stone. Would that be acceptable for your needs?
yep !
I think a minute is fair enough. If it hasn't been caught by the author after a minute then it probably would be fixed anyways :)
Ok, well, of course the other team members will see this post. It's something we'll keep in mind. We don't have the development bandwidth to think it out right now. We're deploying a batch of improvements to OpenStudy sometime today then working on other stuff for a bit. However, when we start another improvement batch on OpenStudy I'll bring it up in the discussion.
awesome thank you!
oki :D .. thanks :)
