Question #1 Classify the expression 7x3 + 2x2 – 9x as a monomial, binomial, trinomial or polynomial. a. monomial b. binomial c. trinomial d. polynomial Question #2 Identify the degree of the polynomial x2y + 5xy3 – 7y2 + 2. a. 2 b. 3 c. 4 d. 5

hartnn (hartnn):

since it has 3 different terms, can u guess what it would be? monomial or binomial or trinomial? the degree of polynomial is the highest power of any term in it...can u tell me powers of each term?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Question 1 (d)? Question 2 (a) ?

hartnn (hartnn):

nopes,3 terms-->trinomial highest power is for the term 5xy3...1+3=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha atfirst i thought it was trinomial as well.. but i thought polynomial is anything more than or equal to power of 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polynomial wikipedia says it is polynomiall o.O

hartnn (hartnn):

nopes,trinomial=3 different terms,binomial=2 different terms

hartnn (hartnn):

yes,its also a polynomial, but more accurate answer would be trinomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks a lot you guys. @hartnn Are "all of the above" factors of 5x3 + 320? *5 *x + 4 *x2 – 4x + 16

hartnn (hartnn):

5 isn't

hartnn (hartnn):

x+4 is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x2– 4x + 16 isnt as well?

hartnn (hartnn):

it is a factor...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then how is 5 not? there cant be 2 answers.

hartnn (hartnn):

ohh,wait....factors are asked...so 5 is.....sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay. thank you
