what is a verticle line test in a function? how it passes?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

good question... for example you have a graph: |dw:1345957342166:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone explain me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how you draw it . I mean how you come to this diagram in a graph?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

when you apply the vertical line test, you draw several vertical lines ON the graph|dw:1345957382730:dw|

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@annie1111 that graph was just an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just draw a line parallel to y-axis if the drawn line meets the curve only at single point then the graph is a function else if the drawn line intersects the graph at more than one point then it is not a function

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

now...you have vertical lines. count how many times the LINES and the GRAPH intersected|dw:1345957445486:dw| in this case, EACH vertical line crossed the graph only ONCE...therefore it's a function

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

now...let's take another graph for example (again this is completely made up)|dw:1345957501411:dw|
