how to factor t^2 +3t-40?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find two numbers which when: Multiplied together give -40. Added together give 3. The easiest way to start would be to write down the factors of -40. Can you proceed from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once you have found them (call the two numbers a and b) you can factor it in the form (x+a)(x+b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be (t-5)(t+8) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it's right! good job
