Determine whether the graphs of y = –7x + 1 and –y = 7x –1 are parallel, perpendicular, coincident, or none of these.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give an explanation not just an answer please

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

first change second equation to ' y = ' by multiplying each term by -1

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

then you can compare equations directly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Parallel -> same slope Perpendicular -> negative reciprocal ( -1/x)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

can you do what i suggested?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry i was afk

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

-1 * ( -y = 7x - 1) gives y = 7x + 1 which is the same as the first equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cwrw238 I got perpendicular

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sorry i got it wrong its y = -7x + 1 - same as first so the lines are co-incident

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So coincident?
