I need help with this math problem- You have a piece of wood that is 72 inches long. You cut the wood into 3 pieces. The 2nd piece is 6 inches longer than the 1st piece. The 3rd piece is 6 inches longer than the 2nd piece. Draw a diagram & then write & solve an equation to find the lengths of the 3 pieces. I understand this problem, however I am confused on how to write an equation. Can someone please explain to me how I would write an equation relating to this problem? Thank you!

The 3rd piece is 6 inches longer than than the 3rd piece? I think you typed it wrong..

oops! i meant is longer than the second piece.

First, I dont know abt the equation but i think its x + (x+6) + (x+12) = 72

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the third piece is 6 inches longer than the second one that means its 12 inches longer than the first piece..so thats why its 12

alright thank you for your help!
