I don't get this... Choose the answer based on the most efficient method as presented in the lesson. If the first step in the solution of the equation -9 + x = 5x - 7 is "subtract x," then what should the next step be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 5x add 7 add 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-9 + x - x = 5x - x - 7\] okay so if you did the first step it would be like this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would end up with\[-9 = 4x - 7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you want to get 7 on the other side so what do you think the step is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9-7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close you want to add 7 like this\[-9 + 7 = 4x - 7 + 7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is add 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add 7 would be the next step after subtracting x. By subtracting x you now how x on only one side of the equation. To get x alone you need to get rid of the -7 y adding 7 to both sides

Oh! ok! Thank You!
