Quadratic equation, - (-1/4) +/- Radical (-1/4^2 - 4(3/4)(1/2) all divided by 2(3/4) Soo.. 1/4 +/- Radical (1/16 - 3/2) / 3/2 ----> 1/4 +/- Radical -23/16 Next to get the negative out of the radical we must use imaginary numbers or i. So the equation is now, 1/4 +/- i radical 23/16 which simplifies into 1/4 +/- i(rad23/4) since 16 is squared into 4. So therefore X = 1/4 + i(rad23/4) or 1/4 - i(rad23/4) but you can write both answers by simply putting. 1/4 +/- bla bla bla.
