|x + 3| means the "absolute value of" so the value of x + 3 will always be a positive number. Rewrite it to show: |x+3|-2+5=0 But thinik about it, you can never get it to equal (-5), right? No matter what you put in X, it will be a positive number. As yourself, "what positive number minus 2 = (-5)
