ABCD is a parallelogram. Angle B is equal to (3x+5)^degrees and angle D is equal to (x+20)^degrees Find x.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

B and D are opposite angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12.5 15 7.5 38.75

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

in the previous question, we saw that opposite angles in parallelogram are congruent, rigth ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so just equate them and solve x \(\angle B = \angle D\) 3x+5 = x+20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

can you solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i combined 3x and x and subtracted 5 from 20which i got 15

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

3x + 5 = x + 20 subtact x both sides 2x + 5 = 20 subtract 5 both sides 2x = 15 divide both sides by 2 x = 15/2 = 7.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c.. thank you so much! i see where i messed up

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yeah you're half way... and you;re right upto that..... last we need to divide by 2 to solve x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from 7.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nevermind lol

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

:D you got 2x = 15 next, you need to divide 2 both sides, then you will get x = 7.5
