Factor out the GCF from the expression. 48x^5-16x^3= 16&48 have a GCF of 16 -16(x^3-3x^5) Can someone tell me if this is correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your on the right track but look at your variable x. Can you do any thing with it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add the exponents? ( sry my comp froze)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

GCF you said was 16 that was for the numbers but you have a GCF for the variable x as well.... so what do you think that might be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it x^3 because there are x to the third power in each component.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then the answer would be, 48x^5-16x^3=16x^3(3x^2-1) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
