Joy has a square pic that is 4 in. on each side. The picture is framed with a length of ribbon. She wants to use the same piece of ribbon to frame a circular picture. What is the maximum radius of the circular frame?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8/pi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please can you explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the ribbon is all the way around the picture... then the length of the ribbon is the circumference of the pic... so that would be 16. then the formula for the circumference of a circle is 2pi(r). the equation you need to use is 2pi(r)=16 (the length of the ribbon so you divide by 2pi on both sides and you get that r=8/pi
