2x+1=-2(2x+5)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

2x+1 = -2(2x+5) first distribute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+ 1 = -4x - 10 6x = -11 x = -11 /6

Thanks, I came to the same conclusion, -11/6. However, the numbers were not matching up when I checked my work. If I convert -11/6 into a decimal and round to the nearest hundredth (-1.83) I get -2.66=-2.68. Any advise?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

what number does the book say it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No answer is given in the back of the book for this equation.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

what numbers are you checking your work against?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

im confused about what your asking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the answer to the equation is in-fact -11/6. When checking my work, it doesn't add up. I.E. 2(-1.83)+1=-2(2*-1.83+5) I get -2.66=-2.68. ???

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this is because you rounded, do not round untill the very end. you cant get an answer and then round to check your work, it will(most of the time) not work out. But plug in -11/6 and do the math...it will work
