A motorboat takes5 hours to travel 300mi going upstream. The return trip takes 2 hours going downstream. What is the rate of the boat in still water and what is the rate of the current?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Upstream we are going against the current. So let's say r=rate of boat and c=rate of current we have to write two equations one upstream and one down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to write these equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rate of the boat in still water? rate of the curent ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whenever the boat is in the river its speed will be modified by the current of the water
