How many 3 digit even numbers can be made using the digits 1,2,3,4,6,7,if no digit is repeated?
for any of the numbers to be even the last digit of the number should be divisible by 2,so the last(3rd digit numbers should be either 2,4 or 6(3 posibilities) and the first digit could be any of the 6 digits except the one used in the last digit so 5 possibilities and the middle any of the 6 except the ones used in the first and the last digit so,(6-2=4) 4 possibilities so the total number of 3 digit even numbers you can make is 5*4*3=60.
difference between permutation and combination?
remember you didn't mention 5 so I didn't include 5 in my calculation and thanks for the medal!
(:
Both are arrangements, but in permutation order matters...say for example you are taking pictures with me and your other friend sitting in a row the first pic.you in the right your friend in the middle and me at the left, the second you still at the right me in the middle and your other friend on the left, and another pic.you in the middle your friend on the left and me on the right.....(we can take 3!=6 pictures) which are completely different..so our order mattered right?....that's permutation. but in combination order doesn't matter say the three of us(above example)are running for presidency and say you won the election and I got to be the vice president and your friend the secretary general...here order doesn't matter because nomatter our arrangements you still are the president and I am the v.president and your friend the secretary general..that's combination. Hope it makes sense
