session 1: worked Example : with Mathlet : I dont understand the (C) part of every 3 questions ( from question 1 to 3 ).How to find the value of Δx for which the value of Δy/delta x is within 0.1........Plz Help.thanks in advance .
The tangent is given by the derivative, that is \[\frac{dy}{dx}\] On the mathlet (at the bottom) this is given by clicking the red box named 'Tangent'. When you click the Tangent box it will give you the value of the derivative from where you set it with the 'red slider'. Now, just above the red value of the tangent (still at the bottom of the mathlet) you can see the value for \[\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}\] in YELLOW, to alter this value you use the yellow colored slider. What the question is asking is: find the value for delta x (the yellow slider) that is 0.1 different from the value of the Tangent, that is, the RED value just under where the yellow value dy/dx is shown ( but ONLY if the Tangent box is checked will you see this ). So, if you set the red slider to the value that is asked for in the question, that is x = 0 , then you select the tangent box, you will see the value of the tangent, now you must select the YELLOW slider to be within 0.1 of the tangents RED value.
