I am a number greater than 99 and less than 1000. Two of my digits that aren't next to each other are the same. My tens digit could not be greater and it is 1 more than my hundreds digit. What number am I?

What about the statement "my tens digit can not be greater"? Isn't 9 in the tens position and isn't it greater than 8?
9 is greater then eight, no digit it greater than nine
