\[\frac{ x }{ x^2 } = \frac{ x }{ x*x } = \frac{ 1 }{ x }\] The x on the top and the x on the bottom cancels. we now have. 1/x -4 - 1/x +2 = 2 the positive 1/x and the negative cancels. giving us: -4 +2 = 2 2 = 2

x = 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well actually it doesn’t matter what x is as long as it isn't 0, since we can't divide by 0 so the answer would be: \[x \neq 0\]

Opps, seems like I made a mistake. -4 + 2 = -2 The equation can't be solved. https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=+x%2Fx^2+-+4+-+1%2Fx%2B+2+
