Find All Real Solutions: 2X^4+3Y^3-16Y^2+15Y-4

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

should that be a "Y^4" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes oops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have the answer i just need to know how.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you see the attach i don't see why use 1 for syntactic division.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

its the rational zero theorem ....if there any rational zeros, then they must be factors of leading coefficient and constant --> 4,2,1,1/2,1/4 then you try those using synthetic division, if you get remainder of 0, then its a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i need to try all possible solutions?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yes, well until you find one that works....the trend is to start will smaller values first since they will be more likely

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yes...these can be a pain, if you can , use a graphing calculator and graph the function to see where the zeros are then just verify with synthetic division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks
